Linda Marks, L.M.
I thought that I was going to be
a dietitian as a professional goal. I did work in food service for several
years. Providence had other plans in store for me with many interesting
stops along the way which made life richer and fuller.
Natural medicine interested me greatly,
which led me to midwifery. After four years of working with other midwives
(interspersed in 13 years of time) as a direct entry midwife in Alabama,
Ohio and California (where I met Beth), I began midwifery school in 1993
and graduated in June of 1995 from Seattle Midwifery School. In that same
month I moved to Spokane to begin my own practice and have been here ever
since. I have attended almost 500 births as of 2002. From my first introduction
to midwifery, I have been in love with the profession. It is always a great
honor to help women and their families achieve the birth experience THEY
want and choose.
Other interests I have are gardening,
as in the vegetable variety, and I enjoy being active in my church, and
horse back riding. I hope to work in the mission field someday, God willing.

Beth Morill, L.M.
I believe that it was Divine Providence
that led me to meet Linda in 1987. Our friendship resulted in a dream to
practice midwifery together some time in the future. In 1995, when Linda
finished midwifery school and moved to Spokane to start a practice, I joined
her as an apprentice. After attending Seattle Midwifery School myself and
graduating in 1999, I joined the practice and after 12 years, our dream
of having a practice together was finally realized!
The privilege of working as a midwife
is truly a gift from God. I feel called to serve women and their families
through midwifery. "And because the midwives feared God, He gave them families
of their own." -Exodus 1:21
My other passion is my family. My
husband and I have four children and enjoy country living on the outskirts
of Spokane. Due to commitment to my family, I work in midwifery only part-time.
Other activities I enjoy are reading, Bible study, home schooling, and
the outdoors.
While in midwifery school, I had
the opportunity to work for a short time in a few hospitals in Jamaica.
This gave me a taste for working in foreign fields and I hope someday to
pursue midwifery work in a third world country. For now, Linda and I are
thankful to be working together, grateful for the opening of a birth center,
and looking forward to serving many more women in Spokane and the vicinity. |
Since
the beginning of time, women have sought midwives for advice, assistance
and companionship during pregnancy and childbirth. Today's midwives have
the opportunity for education and intensive training. While the preparation
for our profession has changed, the philosophy of our work is much the
same as it has always been. Pregnancy and childbirth are viewed as normal,
natural, God created functions of the body.
Pregnancy
and childbirth are major life experiences and each woman is unique. Birthright
strives to give each family the individual attention needed to have a birth
that is both satisfying and safe. We use traditional skills combined with
modern medical techniques to safeguard the normal and ensure prompt diagnosis
and referral of complications.
Each
visit with your Midwife allows plenty of time for questions, discussion
and family involvement. All decisions regarding care are made together.
"To strengthen confidence, dispel
fear, and bind families together,
this is our greatest joy."
