Since
the beginning of time, women have sought midwives for advice,
assistance
and companionship during pregnancy and childbirth. Today's midwives
have
the opportunity for education and intensive training. While the
preparation
for our profession has changed, the philosophy of our work is much the
same as it has always been. Pregnancy and childbirth are viewed as
normal,
natural, God created functions of the body.
Pregnancy
and childbirth are major life experiences and each woman is unique.
Birthright
strives to give each family the individual attention needed to have a
birth
that is both satisfying and safe. We use traditional skills combined
with
modern medical techniques to safeguard the normal and ensure prompt
diagnosis
and referral of complications.
Each
visit with your Midwife allows plenty of time for questions, discussion
and family involvement. All decisions regarding care are made together.
"To strengthen
confidence, dispel
fear,
and bind families together,
this is our greatest joy."

- Linda Morgan, L.M. -
I
started doing midwifery in Alabama in 1980 as part of a different
program. I fell in love with birth and it became clear to me
that this was where God wanted me. After leaving Alabama, I
read everything I could get my hands on about midwifery, birth,
mother - baby bonding, etc. I got married and had a son of my
own at home in California. What a fantastic
experience! After that, I worked as an apprentice with two
midwives- one in California and one in Ohio- before entering midwifery
school. From 1993 to 1995, I attended Seattle Midwifery
School and became licensed in Washington. Straight out of
school I moved to Spokane and started working. Beth joined me
four years later and we’ve just been busy little bees every
since. God has really blessed.
In
2004 I started going on short term mission trips to other
countries. These are from 2-6 weeks long. What an
amazing blessing that has been. By March 2010 I had attended
1000 births in seven countries (USA – by far the vast
majority, American Samoa, Senegal, Peru, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and
Kiribati). I continue to go on short term mission trips to
other countries and love the international experience. Teaching and
training new midwives here and abroad is also very
enjoyable.
Other interests are gardening, horses, camping, skiing (water and
snow),
snowmobiling and flying. I remarried September of 2009 and
have been richly blessed to have a man who supports my ministry / work,
who enjoys the out of doors like I do and who is devoted to missions.
I particularly like helping women and their families safely navigate
through the maze of choices and experiences that pregnancy and birth
bring. Providing them with the unbiased information they need
to choose what is best for them. I believe birth is the
parent’s experience. I am there providing knowledge
and a safety net, empowering and enabling them to birth with privacy
and dignity in the way they choose and making birth as non-traumatic
for
the
mom and baby as possible. |

Professional:
Midwifery started
out as a hobby for me, evolved into a passion and has now become a
ministry - an avenue through which I can serve women and their families
by educating, nurturing and supporting them through a memorable
and life-changing experience - giving birth!
Since graduating from Seattle Midwifery
School in
1999, Linda Morgan and I have worked together, first as Birthright,
then as Spokane Midwives. In 2001 we opened the
birth
center, which gave women in the greater Spokane area a second option
for
birthing venues out of the hospital. It has met the needs of
many
women and been a great blessing!
Personal/Family: My husband
and I have been
married 27 years and have four children. The older two are
grown
and married and the younger two are ages 15 and 9,(as of
2011).
We also have two small grandchildren which is wonderful because it
means we still have babies in the family! Besides midwifery, I love to
home school, camp with my family, grow things, as well as study and
teach the Bible. I am grateful for so many things in life that bring
fulfillment and joy!

I have grown up in the midwifery world
as my mom (Beth Morrill) is a wonderful midwife. I was in High School
when I started attending a few births with my mom, assisting her. It
was then I knew that some day I would be a midwife as well. I decided
to get my RN right out of High School to gain some experience in the
medical field. After getting my RN, I worked at Loma Linda Medical
Center in both postpartum and high risk antepartum. I caught my first
baby on a mission trip in Ethiopia with Linda Morgan! Linda and I went
to Ethiopia for 6 weeks to volunteer at a small mission hospital. It
was on this trip when I delivered my first 25 babies that my love for
midwifery really grew. I am excited now to be almost finished with my
schooling through Aviva Institute and I am planning on finishing in
February of 2012.
I recently married the man of my dreams.
Some of the
things we enjoy doing are: spending time out in nature, camping,
biking, hiking, sailing, etc. I also enjoy spending time in God's Word
and sharing it with others.
My dream is to minister and serve women
during their
pregnancy and birth by giving them the best individualized care
possible.

A music major in college, I started
attending hospital births as a labor
doula in 2001 after my son's vacuum delivery at a hospital in Denver,
Colorado. Then in 2004, I was trained to be a midwife's assistant and
was
bit by the midwifery bug and thus, have attended home births almost
exclusively ever since. I have been assisting midwives at home births
in the Coeur d'Alene and
Spokane area for the past five years. And although I am phasing it out,
a friend and I started a local business teaching childbirth
classes at Birth
Journey Prep . I also have been a member of
the Inland Northwest Doula Network for the
past few years.
The summer of 2010 I spent four weeks in the Philippines
doing an internship
at Mercy Maternity Clinic and Newlife Midwifery School where they
deliver
about 150 births per month! It was a life changing trip for me, as I've
never been to a third world country before nor seen poverty like that.
I got to
catch a dozen babies myself and practice doing IVs and suturing too. I
am
taking the apprenticeship route (self-study) to learn the art of
midwifery rather than take a formal school program. I will be
taking my NARM
board exam in August of 2011 to get my CPM (Certified Professional
Midwife)
and plan to be Washington state licensed by spring of 2012.
I birthed my 9 and a half pound daughter
at home with a midwife in 2005. We moved to Spokane Valley in 2006 and
love
living near my extended family, who live in north Idaho. My husband
Kent is
the music director at The Oaks Classical Christian Academy. Both of our
kids go to school there so I am available to run off to births on a
moment's notice.
It has been such a huge blessing to be able to help spread
the word to local families about midwifery care and their birthing
options. I
am very
excited to join the Spokane Midwives practice and look forward to
serving
the community!
